Volunteering at the Giving Garden

Join us every Thursday from 5:30pm-7:30pm from September - June. No sign up, just show up. (However, we ask that groups do email us at contact@gainesvillegivinggarden.org to schedule a group volunteering!) Read on to learn more…

Join us on Volunteer Days to help weed, plant, harvest, fertilize, and complete various farm tasks that keep our garden productive and beautiful. We believe that we have the power to redefine “productivity” with an inclusive, compassionate, and mindful culture. What if productivity is developing a relationship to the earth, to community, and to self? In this case, it might look like making new friends at the Giving Garden, or watching a butterfly in a pollinator garden. During Volunteer Days, we work to uphold a special culture and invite you to join us.

Our Volunteer Days begin with an “opening circle”, during which we orient with one another and the space, sharing about ourselves followed by discussing the tasks to be tackled that day. From there, we break off into groups to accomplish various tasks. We always work while listening to music, and typically enjoy a shared snack at the picnic table.

We have volunteers who are 3 years old up to 73 years old — we are honored to hold space for a diverse gathering of community members. We will work to establish “kid-friendly” tasks for the young volunteers, and have spacious walking rows between our vegetable beds to help accommodate volunteers with disabilities.

Group Volunteering:

We ask that groups that wish to volunteer do not bring any more than 10 individuals at a given time. We have found that too many hands on a given day can be a bit chaotic! We ask for you to sign up your group' in advance to avoid cross-over with other groups wishing to volunteer. We host groups during our public Volunteer Days. If you wish to discuss scheduling options for group volunteering, we can be contacted at contact@gainesvillegivinggarden.org.
